Connect n8n to Skysay
Import a tested n8n workflow, store a scoped Skysay credential and verify your workspace before adding calls or SMS.
Connect n8n to Skysay with its built-in HTTP Request node. You can use the same REST API to orchestrate phone and SMS workflows after the destination, permissions, costs and action have been approved.
Start with a manual, read-only workflow. It needs no community node, MCP adapter or language-model account. This guide uses n8n 2.43.6 and HTTP Request node v4.2; UI labels can differ in other versions. This is an API workflow, not a native Skysay n8n integration or an AI voice engine.
What you need
- An n8n instance you control and a Skysay workspace.
- A Skysay API key with only
account:readfor the first test. - Network access from n8n to
https://api.skysay.ai.
Create a scoped key. The key belongs to one workspace; no organization ID is copied into the example.
Import the workflow
Download verify-workspace.json. Use n8n's workflow import command to import that JSON. It contains two nodes:
Run manually → Read Skysay workspaceThe workflow is inactive and has no schedule or webhook trigger. It sends one request when executed. A key is deliberately absent from the downloadable file.
Store the credential in n8n
Open Read Skysay workspace and configure:
| Setting | Value |
|---|---|
| Method | GET |
| URL | https://api.skysay.ai/v1/workspace-context |
| Authentication | Generic Credential Type |
| Generic Auth Type | Header Auth |
| Credential header name | Authorization |
| Credential header value | Bearer followed by your API key |
| Timeout | 10000 ms |
Create and select the Header Auth credential inside n8n. Do not paste the key into the URL, a Code node, the workflow JSON, a screenshot or a chat. Use n8n's credential store and restrict who can use it. Keep TLS verification on. There is no reason to select Ignore SSL Issues.
When sharing a workflow, review its exported JSON. This sample has no credential value or credential reference; an export from your instance may contain IDs or names referencing credentials even though it omits the secrets themselves.
Execute and inspect the result
Run the workflow manually. A successful request returns workspace context: an organization, a bounded project list and its pagination/truncation metadata. An empty project list is not an authentication failure. Do not assume one returned page is the entire project collection; see bounded list pages.
The test proves the key can read this workspace. It does not buy or activate a number, connect a voice AI agent, place a call or send a message. A workflow success indicator is not evidence of any of those outcomes.
The manual editor displays the returned data. Avoid sharing screenshots or execution payloads containing private workspace details. The sample disables successful/error/manual execution saving in its workflow settings; n8n hosting, logs, backups and instance-wide policies still need your review.
Add calls and SMS as separate approved actions
Keep the first workflow read-only. For a later production workflow:
- Get a usable number with the needed calling/SMS capabilities and completed verification.
- Use a separate credential with only the scopes needed by the chosen action.
- Check policy, price and destination, and collect the person's explicit approval.
- Execute once; retain the returned call or message ID.
- Inspect delivery/call evidence and route blocked, review or failed outcomes to a person.
An n8n IF node or model prompt is not authorization by itself. Your application
must bind approval to the exact recipient, purpose, caller and SMS text or call
task. Do not automatically redial or resend on an ambiguous network failure.
Only retry with the documented idempotency behavior; do not invent an
Idempotency-Key header for a route that does not document it.
The REST quickstart, SMS guide, policy requirements and webhook contract contain the action-specific details. No paid action is included in the downloadable workflow.
Troubleshooting
- No credential selected: create Header Auth and explicitly select it after import.
- 401: check the
Bearerprefix, revoked keys and the intended API host. - 403: check
account:readand the workspace attached to the key. - Timeout or network failure: inspect n8n's network path. Keep TLS verification on.
- Paid action blocked: inspect the returned reason, activation, wallet, scopes and outbound policy. A successful workspace read does not clear these gates.
Tested scope and sources
The workflow is executed in the pinned n8n runtime against a real local Skysay HTTP handler with a synthetic workspace and disposable credential. Missing or invalid credentials must fail; no hosted model, production key, call or SMS is used. n8n Cloud credentials and your own hosted instance still need verification.
