Keep your existing number
Forward selected voice calls from your current provider to a Skysay AI line.
Keep your public business number and its current provider. Your provider or phone-system administrator forwards the calls you choose to a separate Skysay number. This does not port your number, import it as a Skysay-owned number, or forward its SMS.
Set up forwarding
Open Numbers → Keep your number. The four steps save a draft in your workspace, so you can leave to prepare an agent, add funds or complete a number request and return later.
- Enter your business number with its country code. Choose busy, unanswered, unreachable, or always forwarding. Always cannot be combined with the other conditions. Select the AI agent that should answer.
- Choose a dedicated Skysay line already routed to that agent. Its activation, agent configuration, route and available paid funds must pass the normal incoming-call checks. If you need another line, use the existing number request flow and accept its price and requirements there. Saving this setup never buys or reroutes a number.
- Ask your current provider or administrator to enable the selected conditions and give you instructions for turning them off. Confirm destination compatibility and charges before renting a new destination. A provider help article alone is not a qualified dial-code recipe; unqualified providers get an administrator request rather than guessed star codes. Selecting I've followed the instructions records your report; it does not change carrier settings.
- Start a test watch, then call your original business number from another phone. Follow the instructions for that particular condition. Enter the displayed six-digit test code once the AI answers. A watch lasts three minutes and does not place a call for you.
Your original provider may charge for the forwarded leg. Skysay usage and any AI-line rental are billed separately. Test calls use the normal admission and billing paths.
Understand the result
- No test call received: no matching test marker reached the selected AI line within the watch. Check your provider settings and try again.
- Received; forwarding unconfirmed: the AI line received the test marker, but there is insufficient trusted evidence of the original number or the particular forwarding condition. A direct call to the AI line does not prove forwarding.
- Condition verified: both the same-call marker and qualified independent evidence prove the original-number path and that condition for this setup. Test busy and unanswered separately; one result does not verify the other.
Carrier headers are not automatically trusted. In particular, relayed
Diversion headers from DIDWW are unqualified until their exact provenance and
meaning have been demonstrated. Ordinary manual tests on an unqualified
provider therefore remain unconfirmed, even when you heard the AI answer.
A controlled lab test can instead retain its original-number dial record,
business-line branch trace and receiving-call evidence. It is restricted to
the isolated test workspace and configured test numbers.
Declining an incoming call is not universally a busy test. Call waiting and carrier voicemail can affect what happens. An unanswered test must really ring without being answered. An always-forwarded call cannot verify busy forwarding.
Editing the business number, destination, agent or conditions invalidates old results for the current setup. History remains available. A changed route or agent configuration requires another test. Verification is a functional observation, not proof of ownership of a phone number.
Stop forwarding
Use Show how to stop forwarding, then turn it off with your original provider. Recording that you have done so is a user report, not a carrier confirmation. Keep the destination line active while calls may still be forwarded to it. This action never releases its rental automatically.
Before changing the business number or its AI destination, follow the stop instructions and report that you have stopped forwarding. This keeps the previous destination protected while your provider may still be sending calls there. Changing an agent or condition requires following the updated instructions and testing again.
There is no qualified non-AI overflow or voicemail promise in this initial flow. If the AI line cannot accept a call, its ordinary admission behavior applies. Arrange a backup with your provider before relying on forwarding for critical calls.
API and MCP
Use the same workspace-owned resources as the UI:
POST /v1/call-forwarding-setupscreates an idempotent draft.GET /v1/call-forwarding-setupsreturns a bounded, paginated list.GETandPATCH /v1/call-forwarding-setups/{id}read or revise a setup.GET .../{id}/instructionsreads readiness and provider guidance.POST .../{id}/instructions-followedrecords your confirmation.POST .../{id}/test-attemptsarms a test;GETits returned attempt ID to poll the result, orPOST .../{id}/test-attempts/{attempt_id}/cancelto stop watching.POST .../{id}/stop-reportrecords your report that forwarding was disabled.
Writes use numbers:write; reads use the scopes listed in the generated API
reference. Revision-checked writes refuse stale changes instead of overwriting
a colleague's work. MCP forwarding tools call these same services; they do not
buy lines, dial, enable forwarding or send messages implicitly.
Call history and optional alerts
When an incoming call reaches the AI line assigned to a reported forwarding setup, its Calls detail retains the configured business number and AI-line number from that moment. This is configuration context, not proof of the path the caller took. A direct call to the AI line stays forwarding unconfirmed. Only qualified same-call path evidence plus the test marker can mark a call as confirmed; the detail identifies whether that evidence came from a controlled test or a qualified carrier. Later setup edits do not rewrite these historical call facts. Calls predating this feature have no forwarding context.
You can enable Email workspace owners if this setup needs attention on the Test or Manage step. It is off by default. A recorded stop of the AI agent, pause or automatic disabling of its endpoint, or disconnection of an imported AI line can open an attention incident. The existing email worker notifies current verified workspace owners, with a link to that setup. It checks the current state again before sending: recovery, opting out, reporting forwarding stopped or leaving the workspace suppresses a queued notice. Repeated writes for the same incident do not send another notice; recovery followed by another failure opens a new incident.
These notices describe recorded workspace state. They do not continuously monitor your provider's forwarding settings or detect every network outage. They do not wait 24 hours: the existing worker processes them normally and expires an unsent notice after 24 hours. Insufficient-paid-funds notices use the platform's existing billing notification, rather than a second forwarding reminder.
The setup API accepts the boolean attention_emails_enabled. The call-detail
API and MCP get_call can return optional forwarding_context, with separate
configured_business_number, original_called_number, reason, provenance
and status fields. Unconfirmed context does not claim an original called
number or forwarding reason. See the generated reference for exact fields.
